Traveller’s Information

Health precautions: When travelling to Botswana you need to take medication as well as mosquito nets and insect repellents to avoid mosquito bites which cause malaria. We try by all means to ensure that your health and safety are in good hands at all times. We provide mosquito nets in our tents but we advice our clients to take medication before entering the Ngami land or the Chobe District.

Climate: : Botswana’s climate is semi-arid. We advise our clients to ensure when visiting Botswana they must expect hot weather in most of the time so they must bring themselves sun protector creams as well as sunglasses to avoid any health hazards. We use open vehicles for the game drives which are covered from the top to protect our clients from direct sun heat.

It is worthwhile to visit Botswana in the dry season because of the abundance of large herds of wildlife but the rainy season also gives you delight in viewing the game because this is the only time you can see birds in their colourful variety as well as other animals including antelopes giving birth in this time of abundance. It is up to an individual to visit our stunning Botswana in a time that is best recognized to them.

Passport, Visa and other entry requirements
  • A passport is required for all foreign visitors and has to be valid for at least six months.
  • Citizens from most nationalities do not require a visa and will get a 30-days entry permit on arrival.
  • All foreign visitors will need to carry a return ticket.
  • When arriving from a yellow-fever-infected country in Africa or the Americas, a yellow fever vaccination and document is required.
What to Pack

When packing for a Botswana safari, practicality is key. In the summer months, daytime temperatures can exceed 40°C, so shorts and t-shirts are best, with a longer shirt for protection against the sun if you burn easily. Choose clothing in neutral colours (try to avoid white) and wear lightweight long-sleeved clothing at night and in the early mornings to protect against mosquitoes. During the cooler months it is best to layer up as the days are still warm and sunny but the night time temperatures can drop close to freezing point. Be sure to pack a thick fleece or jacket for early morning and evening game drives, which can be very cold.

What should I wear on safari?

Garments of neutral colours that blend with the bush and forest are advisable for safaris and game viewing. Avoid synthetic materials and black clothing, as they increase perspiration and discomfort. Bring a lightweight jacket and/or jersey for unexpected temperature changes or rain. Trousers (long or convertible), long-sleeved shirts / blouses are good for all seasons. October through March - lightweight, light coloured cottons are preferable as it can get quite hot.

From May-August, night temperatures can be quite chilly, so warm jerseys (jumpers) and jackets are vital, especially on morning and evening game drives. Closed, comfortable walking shoes or gym shoes are a must in all seasons. Special attention should be given to protection from the sun; wearing a brimmed sunhat is preferable to baseball caps.

Travel Insurance:

It is essential for visitors to remote areas of Botswana (most safari tourism regions) to have a comprehensive medical insurance policy to provide coverage for local treatment of a serious illness or accident, or if required, medical evacuation. We have Okavango Air Rescue which is available in Maun, clients can pay for their own emergency insurance with Okavango Air Rescue and we are also prepared to make pre arrangements if son interested.
